Smiths Route 5th April.
« on: 6 April 2015, 19:21 »
Another early start this time 2:30 in a bid to make the most of the coldest temperatures, the walk in was magical with a full moon and the mist providing a rather eerie experience. Clear skies and an amazing view of Ben Nevis's shadow cast on the flanks of Carn Mor Dearg. The route was pretty wet and there was quite a bit of ice coming of the flanks of the buttress but it was a great climb, we took the normal line as opposed to the icicle variation which gave a more sustained climb. The sunrise was amazing as we we climbed and the cloud inversion was spectacular. We were on the summit by 9am and It was too early to go down so we wandered around the Carn Mor Dearg Arête to make the most of the gorgeous weather. We were home by 1:30, a brilliant day and Matt's first V although he found it quite straightforward.
